International volleyball returns to León with the XXIII Pan American Women's Volleyball Cup, a competition that brings together ten teams from the continent and is part of the NORCECA calendar.
From September 11 to 18, the Domo de la Feria hosts a week of sporting activity in which representatives from North America, Central America and the Caribbean participate. In addition to competing for the continental title, some teams have the opportunity to earn points for the International Volleyball Federation’s World Ranking.
Ten teams in search of the title
Mexico shares Group B with the United States, Cuba, Costa Rica and Guatemala, while Group A consists of Puerto Rico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Canada.
During the first stage of the tournament, four matches are played daily, scheduled for 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00 hours.
The opening day features the Puerto Rico vs. Venezuela and Dominican Republic vs. Nicaragua matches. Later, the United States and Cuba face off, while Mexico makes its debut against Costa Rica in the 20:00 hours star-studded match.
The preliminary phase takes place from September 11 to 15, while the elimination matches and the decisive rounds, including the final, take place from September 16 to 18.
León is once again the venue for continental volleyball
This is the second time that León hosts this continental tournament.
The city had already hosted the 2024 edition, in which the Mexican team finished in fifth place after defeating Puerto Rico by three sets to one.
The return of the Pan American Cup expands the schedule of international sporting events held in the city and once again places the Domo de la Feria as the venue for high-level encounters.
More than just a continental championship
The competition is also important within the international calendar.
In addition to defining the champion of the Pan American Women's Cup, the tournament also allows for points to be added to the FIVB World Ranking for the NORCECA-affiliated national teams that do not participate in the Volleyball Nations League.
Furthermore, the competition is part of the preparations for the Pan American Games Lima 2027, which adds sporting significance to each of the matches held in León.
For eight days, volleyball fans can see teams from ten countries on the same stage and follow the matches from the group stage to the matches that will determine the final positions of the tournament.
With this competition, León adds a new international event to its sporting calendar and welcomes athletes and teams competing in one of the main women's volleyball tournaments in the continent.
