The Parque Ecológico Metropolitano de León, Gto. "Eliseo Martínez Pérez" is a 359-hectare Protected Natural Area, 85% of which is covered by the dam's reservoir, which helps animal and plant life thrive: pelicans, Canada geese and wild ducks, herons, gulls, cormorants, ibises and more than 204 species of migratory and resident birds.

This green lung offers a recreation area that makes it the ideal place for those who enjoy outdoor sports, with two tracks of just over seven kilometers for runners and cyclists that circle the dam through beautiful landscapes. It also offers safe camping areas all year round, restrooms, restaurants, medical services and everything visitors need to feel comfortable. Throughout the year it hosts major events such as the International Balloon Festival, the largest in Latin America, triathlons, races, cultural events and much more.
